National Poetry Day in the Library
On National Poetry day, Thursday 3rd October, with the Library packed to capacity, our poets who were short listed in the Rainey 300 poetry competition, entertained staff and pupils with their winning words. The theme for National Poetry Day this year was ‘Water’ and the day promised to flood us with a ‘wave of words’, although for us in the Rainey, in this memorable tercentenary year, with oceans of talent raining down, it proved more a ‘tsunami of stanzas’! The admirable talent of our pupils was evident, not only in the carefully crafted and moving poetic pieces, but also in the spectacular, artistic presentations of many of the poems. We had poems tucked inside books almost as old as the Rainey, others penned on slate, and even a full 3D model of the school!
Congratulations to Anna Crawford, Year 12, who was the overall winner of the Rainey 300 poetry competition. Anna was presented with a Kindle Fire for her emotive and beautifully crafted poem ‘Upon This Salted Land’. Other winners were as follows:

Year 12: Megan O’Neill
Year 11 Helena Nugent
Year 10 Adam Adair
