Rainey Success at Coleraine Soccer 7’s Tournament 2014
We arrived early on Tuesday 17th June to the Coleraine 7’s Tournament with a bus of year 8 & 9 girls. We were placed in Group C and got off to a great start winning 1-0 against Limavady High School ‘A’ with an Ellie Montgomery goal. A tough game with some experienced players but a good way to start the day.
Next we played Coleraine High School ‘F’ team. A big win for Rainey here saw 9 goals with Captain Hannah J Porter getting on the score sheet, Ellie Montgomery getting a wonderful hatrick and Betty Scott with a whopping 5 goals to her name. bbr

Rainey faced Dunluce next and had another convincing win of 5-0. Another 3 goals from Betty Scott and Lauren Bleaks getting on the score sheet with 2 goals from that sweet left foot!

The last match of the group stages was against Coleraine High School ‘B’ team. Both Ellie with 1 goal and Betty with 2 goals sealed the win to take us into the knockout stages with straight wins and a huge goal difference of 17.
In the quarterfinals we met Magherafelt High School ‘B’ team and sailed through with a 7-0 win. Two hatricks from our goal scoring machines Ellie and Betty but a special mention to Sharagh Murphy who stepped up and slotted a penalty into the corner of the net. Tami Andrews and Lauryn Heaney made their mark on this game but both unlucky not to score.
The semi-finals had arrived and of course we drew Parkhall who are an excellent side. We knew this was the match we needed to step our game up and be tactically right. It was always going to be close but a wonder goal from Lauren Bleaks into the goalies top right hand corner left her with no chance and Rainey were up 1-0.Emma Scott stepped into midfield and made sure to curtail the Parkhall talents. Defensively Rainey stood strong with Katie-Rose Thompson and Sharagh Murphy letting neither a player nor the ball past them. Rainey had made it through to the final.

With great confidence Rainey took on the hosts Coleraine High School ‘A’ team. Rainey stepped up their game even further and had many attacking plays but unfortunately could not get the goal we needed. It was penalties again! After losing out in the Semi-finals of the NI Tournament to penalties the week before Rainey wanted to change their luck. I have never seen a shootout quite like this. An outstanding performance from both teams saw sudden death and 11 penalties later Rainey where crowned champions! Special mention has to go to Sara Semple who was just incredible in nets diving, blocking and tipping shots over the crossbar not to mention scoring a penalty herself. The other penalty scorers where Betty Scott, Sharagh Murphy and Katie-Rose Thompson. An excellent Coleraine High keeper and the wood work denied the other brave penalty takers. Ellie Montgomery’s penalty was a little controversial with us feeling it crossing the line fully but unfortunately the ref said it didn’t so we had to continue on but it was Katie-Rose who stepped up to take the tournament. Well done Girls an excellent day and an extra mention for Betty Scott awarded with the top goal scorer with 13 goals! A thank you must go to Coleraine High School for running a fantastic tournament and being great competitors in the final.

Team: Hannah J Porter Captain, Lauren Bleaks, Betty Scott, Tamzin Andrews, Sara Semple, Ellie Montgomery, Katie-Rose Thompson, Sharagh Murphy, Lauryn Heaney and Emma Scott.
