Year 11 Business Studies – Tayto Factory Visit

On January 6th Year 11 Business Studies pupils visited the Tayto factory in Tandragee to view the production processes of one of Northern Ireland’s most famous brands. On the tour pupils learnt about the application of many of the topics they will study at GCSE including Computer Aided Manufacture, Health & Safety, Quality Management, Marketing, New Product Development and Stock Control. Pupils found the experience very beneficial as they got to see a factory employing over 350 people in full production. Pupils interviewed Mr Bob Brown who told them that crisp and snack manufacturers perform well during periods of recession.  This is because consumers spend less on high priced items but spend more on small treats, when the economy improves consumers then spend less on crisps/snacks as they are saving towards high price purchases.  He also informed pupils of Tayto’s newest product – an addition to the Advantage range – launched after Christmas, when consumers are more diet conscious!
