The success of #RaineyRocketry in the past few years has been matched only by the enthusiasm of its members. In 2014 the inaugural meeting was held. A team was formed and against all expectations the newbies saw off competition to win the Northern Ireland heat of UKAYRoc regional finals, before finishing a very impressive 5th in the National finals. With the absence of a competition in 2015 it was a title the team were to hold for two years.
Courtney Weir – Second Place in Northern Ireland Final of Soroptimist Competition
On Saturday 4th February 2017, Courtney Weir (year twelve) took part in the Northern Ireland Final of the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition, which was held in Hillsborough Village Centre. Courtney won the local heat (Ballymoney and District) which was held in Ballymoney, back in November 2016 and involved nineteen competitors.
On Thursday morning, 2nd February, the Year 11 Applied Business class visited ‘The Jungle’ to collect information for their controlled assessment. Pupils are required to investigate entrepreneurship and Mr Robert Carmichael kindly agreed to complete their questionnaire and give a presentation on how the Jungle began and has developed over the years.
Rainey ES 1st XV played their rescheduled Danske Bank School Cup game on Wednesday 25th January. After the frost on Saturday, Wednesday’s conditions were much better. Playing with a slight breeze Regent House went immediately on the attack, dominating both territory and possession.
Today the Lego League Team welcomed back to Rainey Endowed our industrial sponsor Sensata Technologies. Sensata are well known in Northern Ireland for their innovation with remote tyre pressure sensing technology. Mr James Coulter, an embeded software engineer, presented the team with a Mindstorms EV3 robotic kit for use in the upcoming National Compeition in Belfast on 2nd December 2016.
Ulster Hockey’s U16 and U18 teams returned from their final competitive event of their respective seasons following the completion of Hockey Ireland’s U16 and U18 Female Inter Provincial series at the weekend. It proved a successful tournament for Ulster U16s as they became the first Ulster U16 group since 2013 to win the event while the U18s had to be content with a third placed finish.
Rainey Endowed presented its annual Prize Distribution on Thursday 22 September 2016. The school joined together in celebrating academic success. There were also musical interludes, the Headmaster’s Report and a very motivating speech from the Guest of Honour, Rhoda Barfoot, a past pupil of the School.
Education Minister, Peter Weir, today visited Rainey to view progress of the £4million investment project.
The work is being carried out under the School Enhancement Programme (SEP) which provides investment up to £4million to meet immediate and pressing needs in schools.
