Huge congratulations to Rainey girls Alex Burns, Charlotte Beggs, Alexandra McKinlay and Betty Scott on a hugely successful weekend at the U16 and U18 hockey Interpros. Alexandra and Charlotte earned their first Ulster caps with the U16 Ulster Team and finished on a high today with a 6-0 win over Connaught. Alex and Betty were part of the Ulster U18 Team who were outright winners of the U18 Interpros! Really well done girls!

#raineyrugby Results – Saturday 30 September 2017

#raineyrugby results Saturday 30th September against @pcportadown – 1st XV Rainey ES 31 Portadown College 21 (HT 17). Rainey started very well but Portadown took the lead with a break away try against the run of play. Rainey recovered and continued to play enterprising rugby. This resulted in 3 tries from Adam McCrum, Bryan Hall and Paul McErlean before half time. Harry Evans kicked 1 conversion. Rainey started the second half in fine style and scored two quick tries by Jonathan Drennan and Jonah Hastings. Harry Evans converted both. With Rainey leading 31 7 they dropped their intensity and to their credit Portadown took advantage. They scored 2 late converted tries to leave the final score in the Vincent Doyle Memorial Cup 31 21.

2nd XV lost 19 7 with David Dripps scoring a try and Sam Hardy kicking a conversion.

The Medallion won 36 5 with tries from James Mawhinney (2),Daniel Barfoot, Anton Bell, Shea Conway and

On Thursday 21st September Rainey held their annual prize night. We were thrilled to have past pupil Jeffrey Gilbert as our speaker. He entertained us with many stories from his work in epidemiology, in such far flung places as Afghanistan and Sierra Leone. Rainey pupils really do travel far!

Rainey celebrates European Day of Languages 2017! Well done to Carly McConnell in 8B who successfully guessed the name of our Spanish bear ‘Benjamín’ (Benji) and to Callum Smyth in 8D wo guessed the correct number of lollies in the jar in French (64) According to Carly, she also really enjoyed the European cuisine in the canteen and the language themed quiz in registration! Vive les langues!

Rainey ES 1st XV 12 Regent 1st XV 8 (HT 0 3). Rainey threatened in the first half but couldn’t cross the line. In the second half Jack Bresland scored after a break by Harry Evans. Harry then converted. Regent replied with a try to make it 8 7. Rainey displayed excellent character in the final minutes with Aidan MacDonald scoring the winning try in the corner. Final score 12 8.

Rainey Girls U15 and U13 Soccer

The Rainey Girls U15 and U13 Soccer Teams enjoyed a great day completing in the Northern Ireland Super Sevens Competition today at Mallusk. Both teams performed really well and had some great matches and results. Well done girls and thanks to Alexandra McKinlay for photos 🙂

Rainey Pupils Perform For Royal Visitors #RoyalVisitNI

Rainey A level English Literature students were special guests today at an event hosted for the visit of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall to the Seamus Heaney HomePlace.  Our pupils were specially invited to perform an excerpt inspired by Heaney’s ‘Burial at Thebes’ for the royal party and invited guests.

#RaineyRocketry make it three in a row

UKAYRoc NI Final

 

 

The success of #RaineyRocketry in the past few years has been matched only by the enthusiasm of its members. In 2014 the inaugural meeting was held. A team was formed and against all expectations the newbies saw off competition to win the Northern Ireland heat of UKAYRoc regional finals, before finishing a very impressive 5th in the National finals. With the absence of a competition in 2015 it was a title the team were to hold for two years.

Courtney Weir – Second Place in Northern Ireland Final of Soroptimist Competition

 

On Saturday 4th February 2017, Courtney Weir (year twelve) took part in the Northern Ireland Final of the Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition, which was held in Hillsborough Village Centre. Courtney won the local heat (Ballymoney and District) which was held in Ballymoney, back in November 2016 and involved nineteen competitors.

Yr 11 Applied Business visit @TheJungle_NI

On Thursday morning, 2nd February, the Year 11 Applied Business class visited ‘The Jungle’ to collect information for their controlled assessment. Pupils are required to investigate entrepreneurship and Mr Robert Carmichael kindly agreed to complete their questionnaire and give a presentation on how the Jungle began and has developed over the years.

Rainey ES 1st XV played their rescheduled Danske Bank School Cup game on Wednesday 25th January. After the frost on Saturday, Wednesday’s conditions were much better. Playing with a slight breeze Regent House went immediately on the attack, dominating both territory and possession.
