After breakfast this morning we headed out to do Street Ready. This involved meeting the local street kids in a park.
Here we handed out breakfast which was a bread role and some apple juice. Then split up into groups and played games. We enjoyed skipping, ludo and had a few very competitive muzungu vs Uganda football match. With a solid muzungu defence of Mrs McAlister and Mrs Francis we came out on top.
We danced together and the street kids showed us how we are lacking in fitness. As we all dropped out they carried on. We handed out rice and meat for lunch which the kid really appreciated. After this we got a group photo and said our farewells before getting back on the bus and heading back to the guest house.
For lunch we enjoyed eating the Ugandan traditional meal, a Rolex. Then we ventured back to the New Life Homes to see the boys again where we were greeted with drums and dancing. We gathered in our families and performed a variety of songs and dances to the other families such as the Macarena, which we had practiced yesterday.
We played the ‘blind challenge’ where the children were blindfolded and had to find the sodas hidden around the garden. The kids enjoyed playing some parachute games. Finally, we finished by presenting the boys with rugby balls, T-shirts and football jerseys, these were greatly appreciated which was evident with the shouting and singing with joy.
We danced our way to the buses and sang “Making a Melody in my heart” before we made our way at back to the guesthouse!
Another amazing day for the whole team.
