After waking up with the thought of a long journey ahead of us, Auntie Fi’s special breakfast of porridge definitely gave us a boost. One batch was made with peanut butter which we all thought was quite interesting.
With Emmanuel’s teaching of the new variety of Ugandan we will be using up at Rainey’s primary, we were ready to begin our journey out of Kampala and into the rural areas of Uganda.
The state of the roads in the city left us anxious for a long journey ahead and what the country roads would be like. Despite our concerns the roads were surprisingly better than those in Kampala.
At our halfway point on our journey we arrived at our pit stop for lunch at Kingfishers Safari Resort. Once we arrived we walked through the resort and admired the first sighting of a swimming pool since arriving. We ventured further down through the resort until we reached the shores of the river nile. The water just seemed to go on for miles. We then headed back to the resort’s restaurant were we enjoyed some chicken and chips before heading back to the buses to proceed on our second half of the journey.
We then concluded the second half of our journey which was a lot more pleasant than Mr McClements had prepared us for. Once we arrived at Kumi we then went and discovered our rooms. We then played some games out side with some locals and had dinner which was rice and chips with some new African food. With some deliciously sweet watermelon and pineapple.
To conclude the day the building team for tomorrow sorted through all our donation & teaching resources. The teaching team also went through their lesson plans for tomorrow so everyone is well prepped. We are now going to sleep, excited for the day ahead.
