This morning we made our final journey from the Kumi Hotel to Rainey Summit View Primary School. Our team split into two groups of those who wanted to finish off the building and those who played games and sport with the pupils.
The building teams had made great progress over our time at the school with the walls of two of the classrooms being completed to a high standard with the help of the contractors.
The teaching team split into groups of 5 and played a range of games. The different classes played “What’s the time Mr pig” , “ Duck, duck, goose” and even learned the dance to the Macarena!
When the teaching group released the balloons we blew up last night, the children were ecstatic and loved chasing the balloons around the school grounds.
After lunch, we began setting out the hundreds of shoes and books that were generously donated by our community back home. Class by class the children began coming over and their wee faces lit up with excitement as, for many, this was their first ever pair of shoes. One by one the lines of shoes began to get smaller and smaller, until only a few pairs of flip flops were left, which we donated to the school. Once the shoes and books were all donated, we watched the children excitedly open and read their books, giggling and smiling with all of their friends.
We finished off our visits to Rainey Summit View Primary School with the headmaster and pupils showing us their appreciation through a leaving ceremony. This included many songs and dances performed by the children, and even a dance performed by the staff of Rainey Summit View Primary. To top it all off we received a turkey, a way of them showing us their gratefulness and thanks for all of our hard work with the school.
We then had a very emotional goodbye with the children, leaving the school watching the waves of the kids disappear into the distance. Once home, we then packed up, ready to head to safari tomorrow, and sat down for our last meal at the Kumi Hotel! As it was our last night at the Kumi, the staff very kindly lit us a bonfire, which was the perfect end to our stay at the Kumi.
