Today was a very early start! Waking up at 5:00am when it was still dark outside but the sunrise made it worth it. We set off on the buses to the Murchison Falls National Park, where the hunt to spot some animals began.
The first sighting of Jacks got us all excited, soon followed by many giraffes, elephants, antelopes, warthogs and various species of birds. It doesn’t matter how many times we saw an elephant, it just got more exciting every time. Then the bus stopped, and Henry, our tour guide, took out his binoculars…under the tree there was a sleeping lion! We all felt very lucky as spotting a lion is usually quite difficult. It was definitely a morning none of us will forget!
We carried on with our journey and reached the river where we stopped to stretch our legs and see the hippos in the water – you can be sure everyone kept their distance. Then we all headed back to the buses, with hungry tummies ready for some lunch!
We arrived at the Paraa Safari Lodge which made us all feel like kings! For lunch we had a buffet with an amazing range of food and relaxed by the pool for a bit.
This was followed by a boat trip down the river Nile in a double decker boat, which lasted around 3 hours. We enjoyed spotting crocodiles, hippos and elephants. After the hour and a half boat drive we reached the Murchison falls where we stopped to take in the view of the waterfall.
Finally we came back to the heritage safari lodge for dinner, with our journey back filled again with the many animals of the African planes. What an incredible day, enjoyed by everyone!
