This morning we arrived at school after 9 with a busy day ahead. Mrs Francis took half of the teaching pupils the story of the lost son, with the help of the fabulous acting skills of Harry and Olivia. These classes were also given the chance to make crafts – each child was given a mirror to be added to the craft (this was the first time many had seen their own reflection!)
The children were also taught the 7 days of creation and reinforced their learning with some memory games. They loved this and the glitter was a massive hit again!
Mrs McAlister took some biology lessons were the children were taught some basic anatomy, which they were excellent at. It was clear the the education standard at the Rainey Summit View is first class.
While one half of the group was teaching, the other half was building! Despite it being the group’s first time ever laying down bricks, we made brilliant progress on the nursery and progressively got better and better as the hours passed.
After a morning of building and teaching, we all got a lunch break, during which the majority of the group danced some classic dances like “The Macarena”, and “Footloose”, with many of the Rainey Summit View Primary School pupils learning the dances and coming to join us – a very memorable experience.
Following lunch we continued building, except with the sun glaring directly down on us this time. The teaching continued with games such as “What’s the time Mr. Pig?” – the Ugandan rendition of “what’s the time Mr wolf” and duck, duck, goose; which even the RSV teachers joined in with.
Mrs Beverland finished off the day teaching nutrition lessons and helping the kids understand the importance of a healthy diet. The children and the teaching team today has had a great time and we all can’t wait go back to the school on Monday. Through perseverance we made it to the end of the day, being greeted by the rain falling down on Uganda.
And lastly, to end the day we celebrated Abbie’s 17th Birthday with cake and cheer!
Another fabulous day in Uganda!
