On 11th November 2015, six A2 Business Studies students competed in the BASE 2016 National Business & Accounting competition at The Hilton in Belfast.  This was organised by ICAEW (International Chartered Accountants England & Wales) who are a world leading professional membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports over 144,000 chartered accountants worldwide.

The students were given the scenario of being a team of chartered accountants and the business challenge was to advise their clients who were locally based on whether or not to enter into a multinational deal.  The task involved carrying out a SWOT analysis, investigating the advantages & disadvantages of the proposal and then making recommendations.  The students then had to present their solution to a team of professional accountants.

The students did an excellent job and were praised for their thorough response to the scenario and on the quality of their answers to some probing questions.  The students gained great experience of problem solving which will be particularly beneficial to them in the synoptic component of A2 Business Studies where they have to examine the changing Business Environment and application of Financial data to aid business decision making.
