Business Studies Visit to Ditty’s Bakery

On 19th October, GCSE Business Studies students visited Ditty’s Bakery, Castledawson, in order to gain some essential information for their Controlled Assessment. Pupils then had a very interesting tour of the bakery from the storage of the raw materials through to the finished product being packaged.

The visit proved invaluable to the students as they were able to gather much needed information such as how technology has impacted on the business and the importance of training in the Bakery. The tour ended with a question and answer session with Mr Robert Ditty. The pupils learnt about the origins of the company, how it has grown and recent innovations including the introduction of new technology in the bakery, including the use of the internet to remotely monitor refrigeration temperatures in order to maintain quality. Many thanks to Mr Ditty and all his staff who gave up time from their busy schedule to provide such an interesting visit and for providing delicious buns to enjoy before we had to return to school.
