Year 12 visit Forestside Cookery School
Year 12 Food and and Nutrition pupils enjoyed a great session at Forestside Cookery School yesterday, massive thanks to Chef Jeffers and his team!
Rainey Cook Off
Today the Rainey hosted a Cook Off in conjunction with Henry Brothers, Magherafelt and Jane McClenaghan (Vital Nutrition). 4 Year 11 Food and Nutrition pupils competed against 4 Henry Bros employees to make Asian Fishcakes and Garlic & Sesame Vegetables. This was then judged by Ian Henry (Henry Brothers), Charlotte Scullion (Henry Brothers), Mr McClements (Rainey Endowed) and Emma (Vital Nutrition). Congratulations to Jane and Matthew (Rainey Endowed) and Stephen (Henry Brothers) on winning the Cook Off Challenge, both pupils and Henry Brothers employees benefited greatly from participating in this initiative. Our thanks goes to Charlotte Scullion (Henry Brothers) for organising such a fantastic event and Kenny Bradley (Kenny’s Spar) for providing the ingredients.
Rainey Bake Off Final
This week KS3 pupils participated in the ‘Rainey Bake Off’ Final, there was an exceptionally high standard of skill demonstrated. Pupils were set the signature challenge to produce 6 ‘Afternoon Tea’ themed scones.
Alana awarded the BNF (British Nutritional Foundation) Drummond Education Award
Alana Atkinson (L6th) was awarded the BNF (British Nutritional Foundation) Drummond Education Award for CCEA GCSE Home Economics, achieving the highest mark in the coursework element of her exam. Alanna accompanied by her mother Mrs Isobel Atkinson, attended the awards ceremony on the 14th November in London hosted by The Royal College of Physicians.
