Rainey Endowed School pupil Harry Turkington is in the process of helping Rainey Rugby go to a new level. In recent months it has been widely publicised how the professional rugby game uses video analysis to improve performance. This can be used in the game context for the analysis of lineouts and scrums or it can be used to analyse the performance of individual players such as the number of tackles made.

Rainey is using a state of the art software system called ‘Gamebreaker’ which is produced by Avenir Sports who provided Harry and 1st XV senior coach, Peter Boyle, with extensive training on how to use this.  With the help of a new Panasonic video camera, Harry has videoed the Rainey ES 1st XV games this season.  The footage is then analysed to produce video clips showing what went well in the game and areas that need to be developed. A full list of useful statistics can also be reported using the software. This technology has proved invaluable as improved performance is always top of the agenda!

To enable the right view and angle to be gained for videoing, KDM Hire has kindly provided Rainey ES with a Scissor Lift for each of their home games this season. This has been an excellent addition and has improved the quality of the footage dramatically.

With the Rugby World Cup in full swing, video analysis is paramount to the success of all teams. Harry is providing Rainey ES 1st XV players with the same detailed information that is available to world cup teams. Keeping up with ‘the professionals’ can only be a positive step for the future.
