NYO Inspire Orchestra 2016

NYO Inspire Orchestra 2016 was made up of 71 teenagers from around the UK, including our very own Year 13 student, Caitlin McPeake, who came together for an incredible 10-day orchestral music-making residency. Comprising 6-days of rehearsals at the University of Wolverhampton, the Orchestra then embarked on a 4-day concert tour of the West Midlands, bringing orchestral music to their peers in diverse places from schools to a youth centre. One of the highlights of the tour was performing at The Way Youth Zone Wolverhampton, where the audience was made up of over a hundred teenagers who had never seen an orchestra perform live. Focusing on peer sharing and learning, the Orchestra also led workshops for musicians from local music hubs and schools, exploring the different layers and sounds of an orchestra.

This year, NYO Inspire Orchestra performed Nino Rota’s circus-themed La Strada (the score from the Italian film by Federico Fellini), taking on a unique rendition of the piece that creatively integrates spoken word and movement. See their final performance by clicking this link.
