Rainey ES Medallion Tour England

On Thursday 26th November a squad of 23 boys and 3 coaches flew into Birmingham for the start of Rainey ES Medallion Rugby tour. The squad travelled from the airport to Stratford-upon-Avon for the first game.  The opponents were King Edward’s VI School. The Rainey boys put up an excellent performance to win the game by 24 – 10. The try scorers were David Dripps, Harry Evans, Jack Bresland and Bryan Hall. Karl Warner kicked 2 conversions. This was a super performance considering the team had been travelling since 6.30am.

After training on Friday morning the team had some retail therapy at the Bullring Shopping centre. They then travelled to Franklin Gardens, home of Northampton Saints were they watched the home team beat Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership in horrible conditions. They then had the opportunity to meet Gloucester coach Jonnie Bell after the game.

On Saturday they journeyed to Hinckley to play Hinckley Academy. Many changes were made to the starting team to give everyone a start. This did not disrupt the Rainey team and again they put in an impressive performance to win 22 – 5. The try scorers were Bryn Davies (2), Jonathan Drennan and Karl Warner. Karl also kicked one conversion.

They then went to Villa Park to watch Aston Villa play Watford in the Barclay’s Premiership. Unfortunately, the home team lost but the atmosphere is something that the boys will remember. A relaxing night at the cinema completed the day.

On Sunday they returned to Birmingham airport for the flight to Belfast and eventually home.

This was an excellent trip and hopefully one that the boys will remember. They did extremely well to win two tough fixtures with 22 players getting game time. It is hoped that this will help in the build-up to the Medallion Shield. Many thanks to Mr C Simpson, Mr G Eastwood and Mr D Davies who gave up their free time to accompany the boys.
