Rainey pupil Bryn Davies represents Ulster
Everyone at Rainey Rugby offer sincere congratulations to Bryn Davies for his achievement as part of a successful Ulster Schools’ U18 team. Bryn trained throughout the summer with the Schools’ squad, working really hard to improve aspects of his game and in the process impressing the coaches. Late in August the squad played two warm up games against English Premiership Academy Squads.
The first game was against Saracens Academy in atrocious conditions at Campbell College. Bryn put in a fine performance but the Ulster side went on to lose 21 – 14. They then travelled to Hartpury College in England where they played the Gloucester Academy. In a tightly fought game, with Bryn enhancing his reputation, the game finished in a 24 – 24 draw.
With the Inter-Provincial Championship approaching, Bryn unfortunately injured his shoulder in the very last training session. This forced him to withdraw from the game against Muster in Thomond Park. Without Bryn the team had a narrow 10 – 9 defeat. Bryn was still missing when Ulster Schools’ entertained Leinster at Campbell College. This time the Ulster team won an entertaining game 18 – 17.
Recovered from his injury Bryn joined the squad for the home game against Munster. In this game Bryn came off the bench to help the team to a 16 – 12 victory. Ulster then travelled to Donnybrook Stadium in Dublin, knowing that a win would secure their first Inter Provincial title in 12 years. Bryn started this game, putting in a match winning performance, as he played a vital role in ensuring Ulster held on for a hard fought 18 – 17 victory.
This was a fantastic way for Bryn and Ulster Schools’ to end their season. It is also a great achievement for Bryn, particularly when he had to deal with a troublesome injury. Throughout this campaign Bryn has displayed great commitment, dedication and determination. He has also shown many people within the Ulster set-up what a talent he is.
Everyone at Rainey ES is very proud of his achievements and wish him well in his school and representative career.
