A big congratulations to Rainey Endowed School 1st XV who defeated Belfast HS in Round 2 of the Danske Bank Schools Cup.

Rainey ES 1st XV 40 Belfast HS 1st XV 15 (HT 21 8). A Rainey error at the kickoff gave Belfast HS a good attacking position which they kicked a penalty from to lead 3 0. Rainey then went on the attack and from a charge down Bryn Davies scored and Harry Evans converted to make it 7 3. After a period of Rainey pressure another Bryn Davies try and Harry Evans conversion made it 14 3. After a Rainey error in their in goal area Belfast HS scored in the corner to make it 14 8. Right on the stroke of half time a nice move by Rainey resulted in Karl Warner scoring with Harry Evans converting to make it 21 8. Belfast HS scored first in the second half to close the gap to 21 15. Rainey again responded immediately with Ciaran Doyle crossing to make it 26 15. Belfast HS continued to make it difficult for Rainey. However, Rainey showed what they can do with 2 further tries from Bryn Davies who completed his hatrick and Jack Bresland. Harry Evans converted both to make the final score 40 15 in Rainey’s favour. Rainey now play Portadown College in Round 3 on Saturday 20th January. The game is at home and it is hoped a big crowd will attend.

The Medallion and U14s also played against Ballyclare HS. The Medallion won 21-15 with tries from Peter McGinley, Matthew Cowan and Matthew Carson. Reuben Bell kicked 3 conversions.

The U14s lost 26 19. The Rainey try scorers were Nathan Hutchinson and Jake McConnell (2).Louis Regan kicked 2 conversions.
