On Wednesday 18th May, the Southern Sports Partnership hosted its Sports Awards at Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre to celebrate the sporting achievements of the young performers who have participated in the Southern Sports Academy over the past number of months.

 

 

The Southern Sports Academy is a talent development programme delivered in conjunction with the respective National Governing Bodies – Athletics Northern Ireland, Netball Northern Ireland, Ulster Badminton and Ulster Hockey. Each of the seven squads have completed their Development Squad and Competitive Opportunities under the support and guidance of expert coaches. Each of the 149 athletes were recognised and received a commemorative medal, with special awards made to each of the seven squads for Most Improve Athlete and Best Performer.

 

Special guest athlete for the evening from Banbridge Hockey Club and Irish Men’s Hockey Team was international hockey player Eugene Magee. Magee is Ulster’s most capped Irish player ever having pulled on the Irish jersey over 200 times. Magee presented the awards to   the Sports Academy.

 

The 18 Rainey girls selected to the U13 Hockey Squad were-

Evie Doherty, Honor Graham, Jane Bell, Jenna Brown, Jessica O’Neill, Kate Hamilton Katie Scott, Kathryn McClure, Lara Bell, Laura Hall, Lucy Payne, Rebekah Semple, Zara Glendinning, Aimee McClure, Alexa Hastings, Alexandra McKinlay, Charlotte Beggs and Darcey Harkness.

Many congratulations in particular to Rainey Girls, Charlotte Beggs who was awarded the trophy for ‘The Best Player’ and Honor Graham who received the trophy for ‘The Most Improved Player’. These are both fantastic achievements by the girls and the Rainey School is delighted by all the girls’ dedication and progress.
