Rainey Endowed Ulster Sports Hall Athletics

Congratulations to all the Rainey pupils who competed in the Ulster Sports Hall Athletics in Meadowbank Sports Arena in January.


We had numerous medals within the group with 5 pupils also taking Ulster gold/s; Christopher Bates, Krzysztof Sokol, Joel Deans, Luke Caskey & Kate Spillane.


Further to this 4 Rainey boys who won gold and Henry Shanker have qualified to compete at the UK Sports Hall Athletics Championships in Sheffield as part of the Ulster U13 Boys team. A massive achievement boys.  Read the rest of this entry »

Congratulations Emma Scott

Many congratulations to Emma Scott, of Rainey Endowed School, who has been selected to compete for the Ulster Schools U17 Athletics Team in the Inter Provincial competition at Santry, Dublin.

The Schools’ Inter Provincial is the main guide for selection on the Irish Schools’ team to compete against England, Scotland and Wales in the SIAB (Schools International Athletics Board), match in England; Ashford, Kent on Sat 16th July 2016.

Emma came 2nd in the Shot in the Ulster Schools Finals and then travelled to Dublin to compete in the Irish Schools Finals.

The Rainey wishes her every success at the Interpros. Well done Emma!

Harry Turkington Competes in London Marathon

Congratulations to Harry Turkington who competed in the London Marathon at the weekend. Harry was the 12th wheelchair athlete over the line in the 5k event.
Even more impressively he was 9th athlete at under 17 level.
Harry was representing Northern Ireland having been selected previously last month.
Harry described the event as “Tough!”
Well done Harry.

Rainey Endowed scoop 85 medals at Sportshall Athletics 2016

Thursday11th February saw the start of the athletics season for the Rainey Endowed athletes with the County Londonderry /North Antrim Final Sports Hall Athletics competition held in Meadowbank Sport Arena between the areas secondary schools. Sportshall Regional Finals provide an indoor multi-event competition helping budding athletes to develop athletics based skills. Traditional events are introduced in adapted forms suitable for the indoor environment. County teams from across England compete in regional events, whilst finals are staged in Ulster and Manchester.

All teams are bidding for a place at the UK Final!

The boys and girls U13 and U15 athletics teams from the Rainey Endowed enjoyed a great day winning a total of 85 medals.


The Ulster Finals will be held on Thursday 10th March in Meadowbank Sport Arena. There will be two training sessions on Monday 29th February and 7th March from 4.00-5.15pm in Magherafelt High School to select a County Derry team.

Ulster Secondary Schools Athletic Championships 2015


Many congratulations to Rainey Athletes Emma Scott, Harry Turkington and Bryn Davies who all competed in the Ulster Secondary Schools Athletic Championships 2015 at the Antrim Forum. Emma was placed 6th in the Junior Girls Discus, Bryn was placed fourth in the Junior Boys Hammer Throw and Harry took an impressive two Ulster Silver Medals in the 100m and the 200m.

Ulster Shot Champion

Many congratulations to Emma Scott, of the Rainey Endowed School, who became the Ulster U16 Champion at the Shot Putt in the the Ulster Indoor Athletics Championships held on Saturday 31 January at Meadowbank Sports Arena, Magherafelt.
Emma qualifies for the All Ireland Indoor Championships in Athlone on 21st March and her school wishes her every success.



Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014. This summer the Rainey Endowed was delighted to be part of the MLP trip to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014.

The trip was expertly organized by Mr Geoff Burns from Magherafelt High School and Mr John McElholm from St Mary’s Grammar School.  The 50 strong group consisted of pupils, student leaders and teachers from the Rainey, Magherafelt High, St Mary’s and Sperrin Integrated.

Over the five day trip the pupils saw a variety of events including rugby 7’s, hockey, boxing, athletics, badminton, netball, gymnastics, swimming, squash and bowls.

Some pupils were lucky enough to get photographs and autographs from various athletes including the New Zealand Rugby 7’s Team, the Canadian Men’s Gymnastics team, the English Men’s Hockey Team including Iain Lewers from Belfast and Northern Ireland Marathon runner Gladys Ganiel . There was also great excitement when Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry turned up for the boxing and athletics events!

Ulster Schools’ Track and Field Championships

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 19.50.51Huge congratulations to Rainey Endowed students Josh Evans and Emma Scott who both competed in the Ulster Schools’ Track and Field Championships at the Antrim Forum.

Josh Evans competed in the Triple Jump where he was placed ninth and the High Jump where he performed an amazing personal best jump of 1.70m to come 3rd and claim an Ulster schools bronze medal. Josh is only 4th year and can compete in this age group again next year!

Emma Scott came 3rd in the Junior Girls Discus, collecting the bronze medal. Emma is only Form 2, so is also a year young for this event!

Josh and Emma both qualify for the Irish Schools Championship and next Saturday in Tullamore.

We wish them every success!!
