A team of 10 Rainey Endowed U13 girls’ soccer players travelled to Coleraine Grammar School for the annual Soccer 7’s football tournament on Tuesday 21st June, 2016.

The first match we played was Rainey v Limavady Grammar School. In this match we lost 1-0, however, this match was our first time playing as a team due the French trip, so it was a good effort for such a challenging opposition!

After we had lost the first match we were determined to win our other matches if we were to have a chance in this tournament. Next we played Dunclug (C) and won 6-0 with Sarah Goodwin x 2, Aimee McClure x 2 and Alexa Hastings x 2. At this point our performance had improved and we were starting to work as a team, we made good, sharp passes which resulted in win for our team.

After a quick break we got back out on the pitch to play Coleraine Grammar School (D). This team had good skill but we managed to win with Aimee McClure scoring a goal. Now it was time to play Magherafelt High School where we won 2-0 with goals scored by Aimee McClure and Sarah Goodwin.

Our final match for the group section was against Ballycastle. We closed the group section with Sarah Goodwin scoring a goal.

We had a small break before we found out the results for the group stages. We got into the quarter finals where we had to play Coleraine Grammar School (C). They were a very hard team but with some great saves from Grace Fullerton we won 1-0 with a score from Sarah Goodwin. Now we were into the semi-final against Coleraine Grammar School (A). After full time it was still 0-0 so it went on to penalties, Jessica O’Neill, Charlotte Beggs and Aimee McClure took part but only one penalty was scored by Charlotte Beggs. The other team won with 2 penalties.

We had a brilliant day but were sad to be going and we pleased how far we had got.

Shannon Houston and Jessica O’Neill, Captain and Vice Captain.
