The Rainey Endowed 1STXI Hockey Squad travelled to Glasgow, on the 24 October 2015, to compete in the Hockey Schools Nations International Tournament. This tournament saw 16 teams from Ireland, England and Scotland complete for the Schools Nations Cup. The standard proved to be very high and a tough match schedule saw the girls play six matches in two days.

After an intense first game against George Heriots the Rainey were somewhat unlucky to lose 1-0 at the very end of the match. But the girls were not disheartened and soon turned things around in their second match to beat Cheltenham Ladies College a convincing 9-2, with goals from Thea Corry 3, Lauren Mulholland 3, Rachel Burns 2 and Niamh Scullion.

With their confidence restored the Rainey girls went on to win their last group stage match against Loreto Kilkenny 3-0, with goals from Niamh Scullion 2 and Rachel Burns.

This result ensured the Rainey reached the quarter-final of the Schools Nation Tournament at the Glasgow Green Commonwealth Pitch against Hutchenson’s Grammar School, the girls played fantastic hockey to ensure a 2-0 victory, with goals from Betty Scott and Niamh Scullion. Rainey Endowed had reached the semi-final of the School Nations Cup and then faced Glasgow High School, the 2015 Scottish Schools Champions, but the Rainey continued to play their best hockey to claim a decisive 4-1 victory, with goals from Erin Anderson, Rachel Burns, Andrea Hegarty and Niamh Scullion. The Rainey girls then had one more challenge in front of them and that was to face Banbridge Academy in the final of the Schools Nations Champions 2015!! So in an all Ulster Final, the Rainey proved to be the stronger team continuing their winning streak with a 2-1 score line, both goals scored by Rachel Burns, to claim for the first time ever the Schools Nations Cup!

This was a fantastic achievement by all 16 of the girls who were amazing ambassadors for the Rainey Endowed School and Magherafelt town. Rainey Team– Captain, Kirsty McLarnon, Vice-Captain, Rachel Burns, Erin Mulholland, Katie Rose Thompson, Alex Burns, Alice Hardy, Sarah Caldwell, Erin Anderson, Lauren Mulholland, Betty Scott, Andrea Hegarty, Niamh Scullion, Cara Brown, Thea Corry, Sara Semple and Emma Marshall.
