Twelve Rainey Pupils among CCEA Top Candidates



We are delighted to learn that in the 2019 summer GCSE and A-Level examinations Rainey Pupils not only achieved the highest possible grades but some also gained the highest individual marks in Northern Ireland.

This year we had an outstanding 12 CCEA Top Candidate placings with 6 students placing first in their subject overall.
This is a record for Rainey Endowed and we are rightly extremely proud of their achievements.

The GCSE results at Rainey Endowed are outstanding.  21% of all passes were at A* grade and 62% at A*/A grade.  100% of all pupils achieved 7 or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics.

Paris Trip 2019



Day 1 – After our early start from school (1am) we arrived in France. A short coach trip from Beauvais airport later we were in central Paris and our first stop of our trip. The Arc de Triomphe. We weren’t just here to see this amazing monument, we were also to walk to the top to take in our first view over Paris. At the bottom again we saw the eternal flame and the grave of the unknown soldier.

Congratulations to the Rainey Sports Hall Athletics team who won a large amount of medals at a recent competition at Meadowbank.
The event included many of the local post primary schools.

Saturday Rugby results Saturday 26 January.
Danske Bank Ulster Schools Cup Round 3.
Rainey ES 1stXV 39 Portadown College 1stXV 0 (HT 19 0). Playing into a strong breeze Rainey started strongly dominating territory and starving Portadown of possession. After a series of attacks the visiting defence eventually broke with Bryn Davies crashing over for a try. Harry Evans converted 7 0. Rainey continued to attack and with the home forwards on top Adam McCrum crossed for a second try 12 0. The tempo of the Rainey game had Portadown struggling and David Dripps added a second try when he out sprinted the defence to score. Harry Evans converted 19 0. Rainey started the second half in the same mode and Harry Evans added a penalty to make it 22 0. The variety to Rainey’s attack had Portadown under pressure. Further tries from Bryan Hall and Harry Evans made it 32 0. However the best was left to last when Bryn Davies finished off a total team try. Harry Evans converted to make it 39 0. Congratulations to the Rainey squad who put in a fantastic all round performance. They were really clinical in attack and strong and disciplined in defence.
The U13s also put in a pleasing performance eventually losing 21 – 7 to Campbell College. Nathan Overend scored the try and James Cappell kicked the conversion.
Well done all players and coaches. Thank you to all the supporters who braved the winter conditions to cheer on the players.

Rainey Rugby Saturday 19 January Rainey ES 1stXV 45 Bangor GS 1stXV 7. In a strong performance Rainey scored 7 tries. Bryan Hall scored 2 tries together with Bryn Davies, Joel Bell, David Dripps, Ross Speers and Sebastian Hastings. Harry Evans kicked 5 conversions.
In the Danske Bank 2nd XV Cup Round 2 Rainey faced the competition favourites Methody. The 2nd XV players put in an awesome performance eventually losing 33 0. In the Danske Bank Medallion Shield Round 3 Rainey showed brilliant character when they defeated Limavady GS 3 0. A super performance. Matthew Thom held his nerve a kick a penalty with the last kick of the game. In the other fixtures against Bangor GS the U14s missing a number of players who were in the Medallion squad lost 50 0. Business Studies Students Visit Tobermore Concrete 2018


Lower Sixth students attended their annual visit to Tobermore Concrete on 16th October 2016. The visit commenced with a health & safety talk where the students were warned about the potential risks and hazards around the plant and then provided with their high-vis jackets.

Rainey Rugby results v Limavady GS Saturday 20 October. Rainey ES 1st XV 38 Limavady GS 1st XV 7 (HT 26 0). First half tries from Ross Speers, Adam McCrum, Bryn Davies and Marc Seffen along with 3 Jonathan Drennan tries gave Rainey a 26 0 lead. Rainey made a lot of changes at half time to give the extended squad game time. Two further tries from Tim Campbell and Bryn Davies and a Jonathan Drennan try completed the scoring. Rainey Rugby results v Enniskillen RGS – 6 october 2018

Rainey ES 15 Enniskillen RGS 7 (HT 5 7). In an extremely tight first half ERGS took the lead with s a converted try to make it 7 0. At the end of the half a fine Rainey attack saw Jonathan Drennan put David Dripps in the corner. The conversion was missed to leave it 7 5 at half time. ERGS enjoyed a lot of possession at the start of the second half but Rainey defended strongly. Rainey then scored another top try when Aidan McDonald and Ross Speers combined to put David Dripps in space. He showed excellent pace to touchdown under the posts. Harry Evans converted to make it 12 7. Rainey controlled the end of the game and with time running out Harry Evans kicked a penalty to give Rainey a 15 7 victory in a close but entertaining game.
2nd XV won 24 17 with tries from Matthew Carson, Lee Montgomery, Reuben Bell and Leon Martin. Ben Barfoot and Aaron Caldwell each kicked a conversion.
Medallion won 31 7 with tries from Ben Brown (2), James Campbell, Louis Regan and Odhran Harney. Louis Regan kicked 3 conversions.
U14s lost 50 7 with Jayden Shiels scoring the try and Jack McCavana kicking a conversion.
U13s lost 20 17 with Nathan Overend, Isaac Nelson and Glenn Caldwell scoring tries. James Cappell kicked a conversion.

European Day of Languages 2018



This year, as part of our celebrations for European Day of Languages, we invited two local primary schools to participate in French taster lessons.
For the first session, we had P6 and P7 pupils from Castledawson Primary School and for the second session we had P6 pupils from Spires Integrated Primary School. Through a variety of interactive activities, pupils were taught French numbers, animals and colours.

Prize Distribution 2018



On Thursday 20 September 2018 Rainey Endowed held its annual Prize Distribution. We were thrilled to have past pupil Mrs Lesley-Anne Vaughan (née McLean) as our guest speaker. Mrs Vaughan entertained us with many stories from her work in Kenya as a software developer for Vodafone and spoke of how the pace of Technology continually offers us new challenges and opportunities.

Success for Laura at the Atlantic Challenge International Contest of Seamanship



Well done to Laura Lynch, year 13, who was part of the Northern Ireland team which competed in and won, the Atlantic Challenge International Contest of Seamanship held on Lough Neagh in Antrim 20th – 28th July 2018. This is a fantastic achievement. They did extremely well, winning or coming 2nd in many of the events, showing determination, skill and teamwork throughout the competition.
There were 11 wooden gigs from USA, Russia (2), Belgium (2), Denmark, Ireland, Great Britain, France, Quebec and Northern Ireland which took part in sailing, rowing, oars and sails races, navigation, rope work, slalom racing and other seamanship manoeuvring challenges over the 8 days.

Rainey Vs Dalriada – Saturday 15 September 2018

Rainey ES Rugby results v Dalriada.
1st XV won 56 7 and therefore regained the ‘Topping Cup’. The try scorers were Karl Warner 2, Bryan Hall, Ross Speers, Rory Bradley, Ciaran Doyle, Jonathan Drennan and Jack Bresland. Harry Evans had a 100% success rate with his boot kicking all 8 conversions.2nd XV won 62 0 with tries from Max Millar, Ryan McGuckin, Matthew Cowan, Callum Donnelly, James Mawhinney, Leon Martin, Seb Hastings and Adam McCrum.

U13s lost 7 – 12 with a try from Glenn Caldwell and a conversion from James Cappell.

The U14s lost 17 – 55 Dalriada with tries from Sam Hutchinson,Matthew Booth and
Sam Lennox.
