Rainey’s Robot comes out on top
DNA Technology
AS Biology students developing their practical techniques within the area of DNA Technology on the STEM Module, which visited the Rainey today. Some of our students will not perform these techniques again until they are at University.
Rainey Lego League Sponsored by Sensata Technologies
Rainey’s 2015 Lego League Team are delighted to be sponsored by Sensata Technologies. Today, the team made up of form 4 Technology & Design students, were mentored by James Coalter from the company. James is a System Design Engineer with Sensata and will spend 1 hour per week with the boys until Christmas. This is an excellent opportunity for the team to learn from a practising Engineer from a world class electronic design company. We thank James and Sensata for their support. #stem
TheWindOp
Recently a group of Rainey Year 8 pupils began a short study focused on the Technology behind wind speed and direction detection. This class activity is being made possible through the TheWindOp.com’s generous sponsorship, a rising startup company focused on the detection and reporting of environmental conditions.
Technology & Design 6th Form Visit Emerson
Fortunately for them, and us, we have local industry on our doorstep producing compressors for refrigeration units keeping our food fresh. Astonishingly, Emerson in Cookstown are producing scroll compressors at a rate of 1 per minute!
Technology & Design Students visit ContourGlobal
Technology is all around us. Everywhere we look we see the impact of good design and careful implementation. It impacts us every hour of every day. How we travel, communicate, work and learn is changing.
The food and drink we consume are not excluded. On Wednesday 16 September Form 4 Technology pupils travelled to the Coca-Cola bottling plant at Lisburn. But we were not there to see the popular fizzy drink being packaged. Instead we were guests of ‘ContourGlobal’, an electricity generating company, who were in this case, powering the Coca-Cola plant.
Rainey Rocketeering 2015
Congratulations to all Rainey Rockeeters who successfully designed, built and launched their rockets throughout February and March. The rocketeering club has more than doubled in size since last year with 30 pupils having regularly attended build sessions throughout the spring term.

Lego League 2014
On the 2nd December 2014 eight pupils from the Rainey went to the Odyssey Arena in Belfast to compete in the annual First Lego League competition.
There had been a lot of preparation leading up to this competition, we had to build our robot that would compete in the competition and we had to come up with an idea to help pupil’s experience in the classroom.
Wright Bus Visit 2014
On Friday 21st November 2014, 12 Technology & Design pupils from Lower Sixth together with Mr Palmer and Mr Fields, visited Europe’s leading independent bus manufacturer – Wrightsgroup in Galgorm, Ballymena.
A tour of the factory floor gave us an insight to the many processes and stages involved in bus manufacture. This included composite moulding, various joining methods, painting and electronic installation on the production of both double decker and single decker buses.
