A2 Art Students visit London

On the morning of Friday 18 January the A2 Art and Design class along with some GCSE students set out from Belfast International Airport to spend the weekend in London. While there visits were made to the Tate modern, The National Gallery, The Portrait Gallery and the British Museum.

This served as an excellent opportunity for students to view and appreciate some of the best known works of art while also considering new techniques and approaches by emerging artists. A visit to London would not be complete without some sightseeing to the famous landmarks of Buckingham Palace, Horseguards Parade and Trafalgar Square. We also had the opportunity to view the whole of London from the top floor of the ‘Walkie-talkie’ skyscraper – known as Sky Garden. Finally, we made time to see the West-end production of Wicked, which was both a treat for the eyes and ears! Our trip would not be complete without some shopping. So a visit to Westfield shopping centre, the largest in Europe, was made on our return to the airport. It was a jam packed few days and now home, these gallery visits have already helped to inform our students ideas and realise possibilities in their up coming exams.
